Blog on 5th Commandment

There are many things in the world that the Catholic Church does not agree with in today's society. Such issues are Capital punishment, the extent of self defense, and the issues surrounding a just war.

Some might say that Capital punishment is not needed in today's society, that it is to harsh. However, in my opinion the punishment should fit the crime, just as the crime should fit the punishment. If one person kills another, then it is the duty of the government to maintain the security of the state. In order to do so, the person who committed the murder must face dire consequences. These consequences are many time lethal and mortal. We must have the order so that we may send a message to those who think it necessary to kill others.

Another controversial issue is the issue of a just war. For example, not everyone was happy when the United states entered into Iraq to launch our preemptive strike. Many people think that this was not necessary and the we should not have done it. However, this preemptive strike was in retaliation of 9/11 when the terroist bombers took down the world trade center. This retaltiation was just because it was in order to save many civilian lives who were threatened by the very presence oof terror. Just wars are needed in today's soceity.

Self defense is something that every person should have the right to eximplfy. If you are walking down the street, and someone starts to attach you, you have the right to retaliate without any consequences. This is how it is , and this is how it should be. Self defense is part of what being an American means.

Trayvon Martin Reaction

It has been exactly one month since Trayvon Martin was unjustly murdered. This murder did not make sense to anyone. However, even as this case has progressed, it has alos grown in popularity. Now people all over the United States are calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman. Marches by local highschools in Florida have been spreading to all the major cities in the country. Many celebrities have become involveds as well. Through the use of Twitter and Facebook, people have come to know about Trayvon Martin.
In the case of Trayvon Martin, people are calling for it to go the the Supreme Court. The FBI and US Justice Department have joined together in order to find out the truth . The family wants an outside opinion in order to help figure out if the Stand your ground law applies. Stand your Ground states that any person who feels threatened can use deadly force if need be. Zimmerman is claiming that this is what happened. However, the evidence just doesn't add up.

Hoods Up

Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin was a nice teenager who was brutally murdered by the racist, George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was a self proclaimed community watchman. Martin was a good student who got A's and B's on his report card. On the nught of February 26, Martin was walking home from the conveniece store. He had just bought a sweet tea and some skittles.

Martin was walking when Zimmerman started to follow him in his car. Zimmerman then proceded to call 911 and report Martin's suspiciuous behavior. As he called 911, Zimmerman continued to follow Martin in a car closely behind. The 911 responder then proceeded to tell Zimmerman not to follow. If you listen closely to the 911 tape provided below, you can hear what happened at the time. However, if you listen extremely close around 2:20, you will hear what seems to be a racial slur. The police officer even tol Zimmerman not to follow, and he did. Some people think that it was Zimmerman who was intoxicated or on drugs, not Martin.

After Martin had been shot, the police showed up. Zimmerman claimed self-defense, and was let go immediately. End of story. Nothing happened. Police protocol was not followed in this situation. The police did not perform an intoxication test on Zimmerman. Now Martin's family is calling for a national case because of the bad job done by the police in Florida. I believe that this case will reach a national level and sonn the murderer will be brought to justice.

End the Use of the "R" Word

Over the past years, people with a mental disability have been referred to as having mental retardation. However, many people have twisted the use fo the word to become a slur agaisnt those who are not as smart as others. People need to realixe that this word can hurt. And when it hurts, it can hurt for a lifetime. The word retard, or retarded has come to mean something more that that. It is crude and just plain wrong.
However, I believe that a new word ( Intellectual disability) for this slur is not the answer. For one thing, i don't think that anyone will make use of this word because it is to long to say. Secondly, if people do use this word, then the use of it will one day be so great that it to will become a slur against the mentally retarded. Then we will all be back to where we are now.

I do not pretend to have the answer because I don't. However this is not the way to go. If it is directed towards someone who truly is disabled, then action should be taken. But if the person is not mentally challeneged, and someone says that they are retarded, then that person ahould just brush it off and go on with their life.

My Teacher Won't Let me Swear on the Internet

****
It has come to our teachers attention that many kids use profanity. However, most recently it has become more prominent on social medias such as Twitter and Facebook. Our teacher has kindly demanded that we cease and desist all uses of these colorful words. Now personally I usually do not swear on the internet just because that is the way I am. However, these so called bad words are being called "bad" by the previous generation. These people are trying to deny us one of the most basic rights of man. That is the Freedom of Speech.
Even with everyone's parents trying to prevent this new wave of vocabulary, the kids still use them on a daily basis. You hear it in school, on the field, and sometimes in the house. People, like our all knowing teacher, tell us that we cant use profanity on the internet, but what i want to know is how they even think that they are going to stop us. I know that since it is a private school, they can try and do things like this, but the truth of the matter is that this might work for a month or two, but the end result will always be the same. You can not make a teenager change his or her use of language just by telling them to stop. It will always go on.

This is America. The land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave. By trying to monitor or use of language what are teacher is essentially saying is that we have no more freedom of speech. If that is the case than i will surely leave my school and go somewhere else. Our freedoms must be protected at all costs no matter how small or unimportant they seem. However, like I said above, I don't usually swear on the internet. However, our teacher has crossed the line, and I must stand up for the common good. Our teacher has said that he will not let anyone swear on the internet anymore. This is complete and utter bull ****.
