For many years now, a war has been going on in central Afirca. You may find yourself asking which war? There are so many to choose from. However, this is not an ordinary war. This war is the longest standing war in African history to date. Lasting at least 23 years, this war has claimed many lives, left children with no parents, and threatened the every day lives of anyone in the central Afirca Region.
For the organization of Invisible Children, it all started in the spring of 2003. Three teenagers traveld from southern California to northern Uganda. What was supposed to be a filmmaking adventure transformmed into the journey of a lifetime. For Laren Poole, Jason Russel, and Bobby Bailey, it turned out to be their calling in life. This journey would take them through a hell that they would never have imagined. And this all becasue of one man. Joseph Kony.

Joseph Kony is wanted for an extreme amount of war crimes. Over the years he has commited atrocities that would be in comparison opnly to the Holocaust. This man leads a resistance army known as the LRA against the government of Uganda. Over the years, he has spread his influence out into suroonding countries such as, Democratic Republic of Congo, The Central African Republic, and southern Sudan. What he does is his army sweeps through villages and kills as many people as he can. After he is done, he abducts the children left alive and forces them to serve in his army. Many have tried to resist him, but in the end, he just kills them. He transforms innocent children into cold, lifeless, heartless, killers.
What Invisible Children does is they try to help spread the word about this war. Over the past couple of years, the three guys who orginally went to Uganda came home to America and made a movie of the things that they video taped while they were there. They named their movie Invisible Children in respect to the children that get kidnapped each and every day. Soon they had a movement on their hands. People were scrambling to help these children. Within a couple of months, the organization had grown so large and people were donating to help the cause. The original team organized a tour to go across the country in order to spread the news to high schools and colleges.
Ordinary people have shown us that just one or two people can cause a major differnce in society. Invisible Children got so involved, that congress passed a bill to help these children. Also a couple f months ago, President Obama sent advisory troops to Uganda to help train the forces there in order to help. Also, donations from ordinary people go into The Protection Plan. The protection Plan is a plan to help the villages of Uganda and Central Africa to recognize where the LRA is and to let them know when they are coming. By using a two way radio, villages may communicate with one another in order to tell when Kony's thugs are there. This drastically increases safety in these villages. This is the mission of Invisble Children. While national peace talks are being thrown up and then shot down, we need to help keep the children safe so that Kony can't kidnap them anymore. It is up to us to help through donations, time, and especially through our prayers.
